California's New Accountability Model

California's New Accountability Model
This is the image for the news article titled California's New Accountability ModelCalifornia has a new accountability system reported through the California School Dashboard. This new accountability system reports on multiple measures.

The Dashboard replaces the former Academic Performance Index (API), which was based on testing results only, and Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). It includes reports showing LEA or school performance on: • 6 state indicators • 4 local indicators

State Indicators:
The state indicators are: • Academic Indicator [English language arts and math] • English Learner Progress • Chronic Absenteeism • Graduation Rates • Suspension Rates • College/Career Readiness
LEAs and schools receive one of five color‐coded performance levels on the state indicators. From highest to lowest, the five performance levels are: Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red.

The overall performance level that LEAs and schools receive is based on how current performance (Status) compares to past performance (Change). This recognizes improvement as part of overall performance.

Local Indicators:

Data is not collected at the state level in some areas covered by the new accountability system. The Dashboard includes local indicators for these areas: • Basic Services • Implementation of State Academic Standards • Parent Engagement • School Climate • Coordination of Services for Expelled Youth (county offices of education only) • Coordination of Services for Foster Youth (county offices of education only)

The Dashboard shows ratings on the local indicators based on whether LEAs measure and publicly report their progress using locally collected data: • Data Reported • Data Not Reported • Data Not Reported for Two Years or More.
